[May 2nd, 2015]
On April 16th, 1938, Hawayo Takata set sail on the S.S. Matsonia* from Honolulu.

travelling between the then 'Territory of Hawaii' and the Californian ports of San
Francisco and Los Angeles
The S.S. Matsonia
However, when the ship arrived at San Francisco:
We can only wonder: 'Why?'
(For those suffering from 'Maritime Obsessive Disorder')
The original S.S Matsonia had been sold to an Alaskan company in 1937 and renamed 'Etolin' .
'Matsonia' on which Takata embarked in 1938 was another Matson Line ship, (formerly
known as the 'Malolo') which had
substantially rebuilt and renamed Matsonia.
